PROPERTY OF BRITAIN
not sure who this is by [sorry!], but i found it in the corner of my classroom at uni.
It is a really interesting concept, and I think it quite strongly makes a point.
To me it represents the way that western culture sees aboriginal culture. Its set cleanly in a glass box, with a decorative pattern around the outside. The pattern is a dot painting pattern, which is what western people think of straight away when they think of Indigenous art.
The boomerang is wrapped in wire, which shows the way that we have fenced in the Indigenous people, with white colonisation taking over the countryside and moving through their land with our buildings and fences. The fact that its sitting in a bed of red sand I think is quite interesting. I see it as Indigenous people being controlled on their own land, which would be a difficult thing to be a part of.
The little tagline on top is slightly humorous at the same time as being harsh.
I really like this idea, I wish i knew whose it was!
